Summer 2012

Hello Friends!
I've been reflecting and praying about next summer. I spoke to Jennyfer Norvell from Week of Hope Orlando. She has assigned 12 people to come out to Bithlo Summer camp Mon-Thurs. next summer!!! Yea!!!! Wait...am I doing this again? Still praying...God is so good. We are talking abou this almost daily. I love my Bithlo family. The kids and volunteers have a very sweet place in my heart. So please begin praying with me about next summer.

The one thing I know I will need is another person or two to take the role of Camp director. I've got the notion that if a team directed the camp it would be easier for any one of us to take a day or two off each week. What I want is for there to be consistency in the volunteers so that the children feel comfortable and loved. Our goal is to love them to Jesus!

So blessed!!!!!

Hello Everyone! I am so blessed! I am so thankful to all who have responded and helped this week either by volunteering, donating or both! Wow! God's people are awesome!

We are still not set up for free lunch. We would love to do pizza next week. The Little Ceazer's pizza is good at $5 a pie. We could also use some cups, plates, napkins, forks, icees, cookies, chips, fruit.

We could use another couple people to help in the kitchen. It doesn't have to be every day.

If you are good at crafts, or games please join us. We have such a blast!

Best of all we are planting God's truth in their lives! So awesome!

What we need this week

We will need:

an additional kitchen helper for tomorrow, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

We need Ham and cheese for Thursday's lunch.

We need a guest speaker for this Wednesday or Thursday. A guest speaker is anyone who can speak to children about their specialty and incorporate spiritual truth.

You can come out and just serve as a counselor. You would walk the kids around, sit and play, play outside, and just help in anyway needed. The more hands the better!

Summer Camp begins tomorrow!

Wow! It's finally here!

This week we will be focusing on Matthew 11:15.

"What goes into a man's mouth does not make him unclean but what comes out of his mouth that is what makes him unclean."

The children will memorize that verse and all of our activities will emphasize this truth.

There will be a food fight, food stamping and we will play hot potato.

We will also be making 2 human sundaes!

Please pray for a smooth start and safety.

How can you help?

These are the kinds of things you may be good at:

Hug a kid, make them feel special and noticed.
Wipe a tear.
Kick a ball.
Lead a small group discussion.
Help set up and serve snack and lunch.
Set up craft.
Help with craft.
Lead a game.
Lead singing.
Invite a friend to volunteer with you.
Collect donations.
Do you know someone who is good at speaking to kids? Invite them to come share. (Examples: Firefighter, military, paramedic, doctor, magicial, puppets, etc...)

Pre-Camp meeting!!!

The kids and their families are ready to come to summer camp. We may have 15-20 children the first week. We need as many of you to come. They need as much attention as possible. I'd love to have 10 or more volunteers each time.

We will meet in Bithlo on Saturday at 1 pm. Please email me and let me know you plan to come. I want us to know our game plan and pray over the premises! We really need to bathe the place in prayer!

Items we need for the first week

We will need:

Small Treasure box prizes
Foam core poster boards
2 can openers
1 gallon can of chocolate syrup
1 gallon can of caramel topping
3 jars maraschino cherries
1 gallon can of crushed pineapple
4 cans whipped cream
Medium sized trash bags

Large bottles of:
Red tempera paint
blue tempera paint
yellow tempera paint
green tempera paint
orange tempera paint
purple tempera paint

1 can chocolate frosting
1 can vanilla frosting

Towels (they can be gently used)
New/Used children's shoes (Some of the children have no shoes at all)

Bags of pretzels, goldfish crackers, kix cereal, animal crackers etc... (Snacky foods)

Terrific Volunteer meeting!!!

There were seven of us in attendance at the meeting tonight! It was great to hear Tim McKinney's heart on the issues in Bithlo and how we get to influence children's lives and maybe an entire community through our little summer camp. It was so nice to talk about how God has weaved our lives together for such a time as this! I'm so excited about what God will do through us!

We went over the overall camp theme and our goals to love the children, listen to their hearts and offer them the hope of Jesus Christ. It was an uplifting time!

I believe that God is putting together an amazing team. I can hardly wait to get started.

Volunteer Meeting

Thursday nights in Bithlo.

Inside one of the classrooms adults and children love craft time! Jean from Avalon Church brings craft supplies for them to do every Thursday before the meal is served. I've really enjoyed getting to know Tara. She's the adult in the photo. She is teaching the kids how to design with fuse beads...very fun!

Young people from various churches come out on Thursday nights and play games on the lawn. The kids love this!!!! Last night they played football!

The Curriculum

Here is the general information:

The camp will run from June 13-Aug 19th, Monday-Friday 10am-1pm.
18415 11th. Avenue Orlando, Florida 32833

The camp is for children 5-12yrs but if you have younger child you can bring them as long as that child stays with you.

There are a couple a weeks in there where there are some groups coming in to do VBS.
You can still help out then too. I'm sure they'd be glad for extra hands who know the children.

Church from Powdersville, SC June 25-July 1
Metro Church in Winter Springs , FL July 4-8
First Presbyterian of Maitland, FL July 18-22

I just want to get to really planning...Hee hee hee!
I pray I can get some people signed up to help on paper today. We'll take whatever time you can give. Maybe you can commit to once a week from 10am-1pm. If you want to come out every other day or all week that would be great too. Can you lead singing? Help parents fill out registration forms? Be in a skit? Lead a small group in discussion? Tell corny jokes? Kick a ball? Run the AV equipment? Apply a band aid? Smile? Hug a child? We can use your help. Talk to God about it and then I'll get you on the schedule!

We are serving a delicious spaghetti dinner in Bithlo tonight.

The adventure begins!!!!

I'm really thrilled about this Summer camp! I love to see God work! I'm praying that it will pleas e God and make Him famous. He loves these little ones and wants them to know Him & His word. He wants them to know how much He loves them. I hope to love them in Jesus' name.
